The Energy Security Paradox in Central Asia: Independence in an Interdependent Region

The Eurasian Research Institute of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University invites you to attend the round table titled “The Energy Security Paradox in Central Asia: Independence in an Interdependent Region”, which would be held on April 8, 2016 at the ERI Conference room.

The Central Asian energy sectors were initially designed to operate as a complex system within which various state actors interact and affect each other’s energy security. However, Central Asian governments being guided by short-term oriented, hydrocarbons/ hydropower focused and state centric energy security policies, prioritize integration into global energy markets even at the expense of stable intra-Central Asian cooperation. During the round table, invited experts from China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will explore ways to strengthen energy cooperation amongst Central Asian countries and with external actors setting recommendations for the decision-makers to deal with existing and emerging energy security challenges in the Central Asian region.
