September 2019 was marked by a an important milestone in the global oil industry when oil and gas stocks’ weighting in the S&P 500 fell to the record low in 40 years since 1979. Exxon Mobil, one of the major oil companies, fell out of the top ten stocks of the S&P 500 for the first time in nine decades.
