June 2018 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in Turkey

On June 24, 2018, the presidential and parliamentary elections were held in Turkey. The fact that the voter turnout was high at almost 87% indicates that the Turkish people have shown a keen interest in voting in order to make a decision on the political fate of their country. According to the official results announced by the Supreme Election Council, incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan secured the majority of votes winning in the first round with 52.59% (26,324,482) of the votes cast. His main opponent Muharrem Ince came in the second place gaining 30.64% (15,336,594) of votes, followed by Selahaddin Demirtas, Meral Aksener, Temel Karamollaoglu, and Dogu Perincek with 8.4% (4,205,219), 7.29% (3,649,233), 0.89% (443,766)
